Pedestrian critically hurt in Pinellas Park hit-and-run

The man hit was rushed to the hospital early Thursday.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A man is in critical condition at a local hospital after he was hit by a driver early Thursday morning in Pinellas Park, police said. 

The hit-and-run crash happened around 4 a.m. on 66th Street near 94th Avenue. Police said when they arrived at the crash site they found a man lying in the roadway. He'd been hit by a car and the driver left the scene before authorities arrived, the department said. 

The man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, although police said he was "stable." 

Pinellas Park police are actively investigating this hit-and-run crash. 

The northbound lanes of 66th Street were briefly closed at 94th Avenue, but have since reopened to morning traffic. Cars were being diverted around the active police scene until just before 6:45 a.m. Delays may still linger, but traffic conditions should quickly improve in the area.
