Tampa police look to identify suspect in deadly double shooting

The area near Nebraska and 26th avenues was closed to traffic for hours but has since reopened.

TAMPA, Fla. — A search is ongoing for a suspect in a fatal double shooting Friday morning in Tampa's Ybor Heights neighborhood, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. in the area of Nebraska and 26th avenues, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Two people, a man and woman, were among a group in the area who somehow "engaged" with the suspected gunman before shots were fired, police said. Officers and others tried to save the two using CPR but were not successful.

Police don't believe the shooting was random.

Investigators are talking with witnesses and are working to gather suspect information.

"They've been sharing what they know, pointing us to any potential available video," Tampa Police Department spokesperson Joneé Lewis said.

Nebraska Avenue between East Plymouth Street and 26th Avenue was closed to traffic for hours but has since reopened.
