Multi-car crash causes major delays on southbound Howard Frankland Bridge

It's not clear what caused the crash.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A multi-car crash on the Howard Frankland Bridge caused major delays Friday morning for commuters heading toward St. Petersburg.

Traffic cameras and video from Sky 10 showed a massive backup of cars starting around 6:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 275 behind a mess of wrecked cars. Just after 8:30 a.m., the road fully reopened.

Delays are likely to linger still as traffic was backed up for miles on the bridge.

Sky 10 at one point showed first responders putting someone on a stretcher. However, it isn't clear how many people were hurt and the extent of their injuries.

Traffic maps at one point were saying it'll take close to an hour and a half to get across the southbound Howard Frankland Bridge.

The Gandy Bridge and Courtney Campbell Causeway are alternates if you need to get from Hillsborough to Pinellas County, but delays are ongoing on both bridges due to the I-275 crash.
