BRANDON, Fla. — A hospital team and fire rescue officials will honor a fallen firefighter and paramedic, known for his selfless deeds for others.

Teams from the Brandon Hospital and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue are set to raise the Donate Life flag in firefighter/paramedic Jared Huprich’s honor on April 29.

Huprich donated his organs through LifeLink to organ recipients before he passed away on May 21, 2023, in an off-duty incident.

He served in the United States Air Force before embarking on a 12-year career as a firefighter and paramedic. During that time, he consistently transported patients to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital Emergency Department, fire rescue said in a news release.

“The gift of an organ changes lives, families and generations,” Brandon Hospital CMO Christine Van Cott said in a statement. “It gives a second chance at life to someone who may not be here without it enabling memories that will last for generations.”

A lineup of guests, including local performer Krystle Pitts, will speak at the April 29 flag-raising event. Pitts will share her testimony when she was given a kidney donation in 2020 “during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
