Fire in Sebring causes residents to be evacuated; local road closed

Alerts were sent Sunday afternoon about a brush fire.

SEBRING, Fla. — Some residents in Sebring are being evacuated from their homes because of a large brush fire, according to alerts by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.

People who live on Granada Boulevard between Edgewater Drive and Ortego Street are being told to leave. Residents can go to the community center in Sun 'n Lake if they are being evacuated or can't reach their homes.

Schumacher Road is closed at this time, the alerts said.

Deputies are urging people to avoid the south end of Sun 'n Lake of Sebring because it is not safe.

"Please avoid the area to allow fire crews to do their work without interference," one of the alerts read.

No other information was immediately provided.
