The suspect has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Police have arrested the woman who allegedly hit a man with her car in Pinellas Park last week, leaving him dead in a ditch.

Nicole Carlson, 26, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death Friday after a weekslong investigation into who may have hit a man on March 31.

Pinellas Park Police arrived just after 9 a.m. on March 31 near 62nd Avenue and 44th Street and found a body lying in a ditch. The body was later identified as 36-year-old Michael Vilaysack of St. Petersburg, according to the original news release.

Officials launched a search for a 2018-2022 gray Hyundai Accent after that, believing the Hyundai hit Vilaysack after they reviewed his injuries and found pieces of the car near his body.

Detectives found the car involved in the crash on April 2.

Carlson is still being processed at the Pinellas County Jail. Her booking photo is not yet available.
