Odell Beckham Jr. and 'the greatest catch I've ever seen'

“That is absolutely impossible what he just did,” NBC’s Cris Collinsworth said of the logic-defying one-handed touchdown grab made by New York Giants rookie Odell Beckham Jr. on Sunday Night Football. “That may be the greatest catch I’ve ever seen in my life.”

It wasn’t hyperbole.

On the first play of the second quarter, Eli Manning dropped back, heaved the ball 50 yards in the air, in double coverage toward the sideline, and it somehow found the right hand of Beckham, who had been interfered with for the final 10 yards. It was such a wild catch that the crowd at MetLife Stadium barely roared. They were in complete disbelief. Even Al Michaels, who never lets anything get past him, could barely muster the words to describe it.

The catch was inconceivable. It was impossible. It was so defying of gravity and the space-time continuum that it finally made me understand the last 30 minutes of Interstellar.

And looking beyond the amazing catch, look at this: Beckham grabbed it with two fingers! That’s the way you order whiskey, not snag touchdowns!

“There’s your play of the year and maybe, I don’t know, the decade,” Al Michaels said after watching the replay a dozen times, half in awe, half in disbelief. “That’s just incredible.”
