Titans' Shonn Greene arrested on multiple charges

Tennessee Titans running back Shonn Greene was arrested on Friday night on a handful of charges, the most serious a resisting stop charge stemming from him leaving the scene of an incident in Franklin, Tenn.

Greene was charged with a handicap parking violation, driving on a revoked/suspended license, reckless driving and resisting stop/halt/frisk.

The incident began when Greene parked in a handicap parking space on the square in Franklin, located roughly 20 miles south of Nashville. When a parking enforcement officer approached Greene, police say he got in his car and maneuvered to get around the parking enforcement officer's vehicle.

According to police, Greene nearly struck the officer's vehicle, and sped off from the area. Greene was later approached when he got caught up in traffic, but sped off again, police say.

Though an investigation, Franklin police determined Greene was the individual involved in the incident. Police got in touch with the Titans and arranged for Greene to turn himself in on Friday night around 9 p.m. He posted a $2,000 bond and was released at 10:38 p.m.

Sergeant Charles Warner of the Franklin Police Department said the entire incident could have been avoided.

"The entire situation could have been avoided if he would have left that handicap space for who is was intended for,'' Warner said. "The fact that he didn't and got caught being parked there, he could have stopped things from going any further than a parking ticket if he would have simply communicated with the parking enforcement officer and not taken such evasive measures to get away from her, increasing the seriousness of what would have been a simple parking ticket."

The parking enforcement officer is a civilian, not a sworn police officer, "but certain laws apply to her and her authority," Warner said.

Greene turned himself in after being informed there were warrants for his arrest, Warner said.

The Titans could not immediately be reached for comment.

Greene has played in five games this season, rushing for 190 yards and a touchdown on 44 carries. He's missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, but returned to practice this week. On Friday, the Titans listed him as probable for Sunday's game against the Texans on the team's official Injury Report.

The Titans signed Greene to a three-year, $10 million contract prior to last season. He played in 11 games last season and rushed for 295 yards and four touchdowns.
