Some social media posts circulating online claimed that Sarasota teachers were told they can no longer purchase books or have books donated for their classes. Turns out — it's true. The Deeper Dive: But, why?According to the school district, the change is a direct result of a new state law (HB 1467) which requires all reading materials available to students to be selected by a school district employee with a valid education media specialist certificate. And, as of right now, the district does not have certified media specialists working in its schools. 1.
