TAMPA, Fla. — Another Gasparilla krewe season is underway.
More than 50 krewes took part in the 2020 Parade of Pirates on Jan. 25. Each krewe has anywhere from 20 to more than 100 members, all of whom were either invited, sponsored or recruited during rush season.
Rush usually takes place several times throughout the year. Four years ago, Valencia Bryant attended a rush where she became a member of Krewe of the Sea of SaveYours.
“I was just a regular Gasparilla attendee and I always wanted to get in a krewe,” Valencia shared. “I went to their rush night. They had many krewes out there. Everyone was so welcoming and nice to me, especially with me being the only African American in the krewe. They embraced me, loved me and I love my krewe members.”
On Sept. 26, 2020, Krewe of Sea SaveYours will host the 7th Annual Krewe Rush Night. If you’re interested in finding out more, visit the krewe’s, Facebook Page.
