State Road 60 reopens after deadly crash involving SUV, motorcycle

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said there were "significant" injuries.

MULBERRY, Fla. — A deadly crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle shut down State Road 60 for several hours Tuesday.

The crash happened around 5:55 a.m. State Road 60 at Pine Grove Road in Mulberry.

A 22-year-old person on a motorcycle was found dead when deputies arrived. Deputies say he was riding the motorcycle at a "high rate of speed" eastbound on State Road 60 and passed at least two other vehicles.

The motorcycle hit the front passenger door of a Ford Explorer turning left onto Pine Grove Road.

Deputies say there was "significant damage" done to the SUV and the impact caused the SUV to flip onto its side.
