Here's what travelers need to know ahead of Hurricane Dorian

Travel plans ruined by a hurricane? Here are a few travel tips to help you out.

TAMPA, Fla. — Almost nothing can ruin travel plans like a hurricane.

That's why we put together a few travel tips to help you navigate through Hurricane Dorian.

Gas Buddy, a company that monitors fuel prices, activated its "fuel tracker" tool on its app on Thursday.

That feature shows you which gas stations have no gasoline, diesel or power ahead of time so you don't waste your time and gas driving there and leaving empty-handed. It's a good tool before, during and after a storm.

Now, let's talk flights. If you're flying around the Caribbean, some airlines are waiving change fees and issuing refunds for canceled flights. Right now, American, Delta, Southwest, Spirit, Frontier, United and JetBlue are some of the airlines offering changes.

Tampa International Airport tweeted this out on Wednesday:

“Tampa International Airport is closely monitoring #HurricaneDorian as the storm continues to gain strength. As always, travelers are encouraged to check their flight status with their airlines prior to coming to the airport.”

If you had a cruise planned, we know of a few changes due to the weather. Carnival Cruise Line said it is altering its Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Magic and Carnival Sensation boat routes. The changes are relatively minor and still honor the same boarding and return location. Royal Caribbean is changing the routes of Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas. Disney has also changed its Port Canaveral based Disney Fantasy cruise route. None of the routes impacted include cruises that start in Tampa.
