Tampa Bay Rays management is scheduled to speak publicly Tuesday afternoon for the first time since Major League Baseball granted the team permission to explore the possibility of playing home games in two cities.
Team owner Stuart Sternberg and other members of the front office are scheduled to speak at 1 p.m. ET Tuesday at the Dali Museum in downtown St. Petersburg.
The art museum is down the street from Al Lang Stadium, which the Rays purchased in October 2018.
Last week, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred gave the Rays permission to explore hosting games in both St. Petersburg and Montreal at the end of the owners' meetings.
However, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman said the Rays could not explore hosting games outside of St. Petersburg until the team's lease ends at Tropicana Field after the 2027 season.
To negotiate outside of St. Petersburg, the Rays and the city would have to come to a memorandum of understanding. In December 2018, the Rays could not finalize plans on an $892 million stadium in Ybor City before their three-year negotiating window expired with Tampa.
The possibility of a split season between the Tampa Bay area and Montreal would also likely face opposition from the players' union and several logistical hurdles.
