TAMPA, Fla. — Around 300 wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans will compete during the 2019 Department of Defense (D0D) Warrior Games in Tampa.
Athletes will represent the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations Command in 11 sports. The events will include: archery, cycling, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, wheelchair basketball, indoor rowing, powerlifting and time trial cycling.
Veterans and active-duty service members with upper-body, lower-body, and spinal cord injuries will also compete.
The Warrior Games were originally established in 2010 as a way to "enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, ill and injured service members and expose them to adaptive sports," according to the Warrior Games' website.
