SARASOTA, Fla. — Sarasota County Public Schools are expected to vote Tuesday on policies for student cellphone use.
The new proposal allows Sarasota high schoolers to use phones between classes, during lunch or under supervision. Middle schoolers could use them under supervision and elementary school students wouldn’t be able to use them.
Hearing devices like AirPods would also be banned.
The current policy of the school board is cellphones should be turned off and put away during school hours. Not every classroom follows the rule.
The public is invited to attend a session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. A vote is expected around 3 p.m. ET at the Landings Administrative Complex.
