Sisters, ages 12 and 9, die in Polk County minibike crash

Deputies said the children were 9 and 12 years old.

BARTOW, Fla. — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating a crash that left two children dead Sunday.

Deputies said the children were a 9-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl.

Sheriff Grady Judd said the girls were riding a mini-bike in the street when a pickup hit them. Judd said the driver did not see the girls and stopped when she heard a noise.

Judd said the mini-bike should not have been driven on the road, let alone by two children.

Deputies said they do not see any clear evidence of wrongdoing by the driver of the truck.
