Arsenio Hall confirms 'Coming to America' sequel, says Eddie Murphy already signed contract

During an interview with 10News, the comedian also commented on the Jussie Smollett case.

Rumors have been circling the Internet about a sequel to the 1988 romantic comedy "Coming to America."

On Friday, comedian and actor Arsenio Hall confirmed to 10News that the project is definitely happening.

Hall said Eddie Murphy signed his contract a few days ago; and when he returns from his visit to Florida, Hall will be signing his contract too.

Speaking with 10News, Hall recalled the moment when Eddie Murphy asked him to read the script in which he responded “We too old to do a sequel!”

Still laughing, he adds: “We could do the barbers without makeup!”

During an interview with 10News Brightside Anchor Jabari Thomas, Hall also voiced his opinion on the recent Jussie Smollett case that has captivated the country.

On Friday, producers announced they would be removing the "Empire" actor from the final two episodes of the season after police say Smollett orchestrated a racist and homophobic attack against himself.

It’s been a case that has everyone shocked and confused so much so, that Arsenio jokingly said that he would “binge this if this was on Netflix.“

But, in all seriousness, he adds “There are a lot of gay men and black men who are in a struggle every day. I’m sad for them because this muddies the water of their true struggle.”

He went on to say "if Jussie did what we think Jussie did, it makes me very sad because he’s hurt the movement on a lot of levels.”

Arsenio Hall performs Friday and Saturday at Tampa Improv.
