St. Petersburg police: Man arrested for DUI, accused of hitting two pedestrians

St. Petersburg police said Cameron Baxley, 25, was driving his Jeep Wrangler on 3rd Street North and turning onto 1st Avenue North when he hit two people Saturday night.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Two people were injured after they were hit by an alleged drunk driver as they were crossing the street in downtown St. Petersburg, police said.

St. Petersburg police said Cameron Baxley, 25, was driving his Jeep Wrangler on 3rd Street North and turning onto 1st Avenue North when he hit two people Saturday night.

Baxley drove away after the crash, but officers found him and stopped him a few blocks away, police said.

Police said one pedestrian had life-threatening injuries and the other had minor injuries. They were both taken to the hospital.

Baxley was arrested for DUI serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, according to officers.
