Man goes overboard during 4-day Carnival cruise from Miami

A search is underway to find a man who disappeared during a cruise.

A man went overboard off a cruise ship near the Florida Keys, and the company operating the vessel says early indications suggest it was no accident.

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for the 26-year-old who fell from the Carnival Victory vessel Friday morning roughly 35 miles away from Islamorada.

An air and water search is now underway to find him.

"Our CareTeam is providing support to the guest’s family," Carnival wrote in a statement. "Sadly, all the facts surrounding this unfortunate incident indicate it was an intentional act. We remain hopeful that the U.S. Coast Guard effort will bring positive news."

The four-day cruise is scheduled to arrive back at PortMiami around 3 p.m. Friday. The ship will then head back out for its next trip, although with a slightly later departure time than originally planned.

No further details were immediately released.
