Teen critically injured in Pinellas County bicycle crash

A 15-year-old girl was hit while riding her bike to East Lake High School on Wednesday morning.

EAST LAKE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol said a 15-year-old girl was critically injured when she was hit by a car while riding her bike Wednesday morning.

Troopers said the teen was riding a bike to East Lake High School and crossed East Lake Road traveling westbound in a crosswalk. Michelle Nash, 51, was traveling southbound on East Lake Road approaching Pine Ridge Boulevard under a green light.

When the teen crossed East Lake Road along the north portion of the intersection, Nash's vehicle crashed into her.

The teen was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital with critical injuries.

Pinellas County Schools spokesperson Lisa Wolf said they are saddened to hear about the accident involving the student. Wolf said there is a support team at East Lake High School for students and staff.

Highway Patrol said Nash was not injured. She was cited for driving with a suspended license.

FHP said the crash closed East Lake Road until about 7:30 a.m.
