Gifts, good wishes heading to Hurricane Michael victims

Sonny's BBQ plans to donate hundreds of hams and turkeys to the Florida Panhandle to help people during the holidays after Hurricane Michael.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – Santa’s helpers were busy Thursday morning loading a trailer with toys.

The gifts were donated during a Little League District 5 tournament last weekend, with players donating more than 450 toys -- even two bicycles came in!

“We really geared it to be kids helping kids, so that the kids would understand that they’re helping somebody else,” said Joe Kirk, who helped plan the Little League’s efforts.

Sonny’s BBQ arranged to transport the boxes of toys to Bay County, where they’ll be given to families hit hard by Hurricane Michael.

“We’re just letting them know we’re thinking about them every day and we’re going to reinforce that by showing up and saying, 'There are people that do care about you and we hope your lives get better soon,'” explained Edward Titen of Sonny’s BBQ.

Sonny’s is also donating 350 hams and turkeys, plus hundreds of jackets and gloves.
