SARASOTA, Fla. -- Sarasota County detectives made an arrest after a detective had two guns and specialized equipment stolen from his unlocked agency-issued truck.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said detectives recovered a stolen rifle, an Accuracy International AT 308.

Deputies arrested David Byrd early Thursday morning in connection with the burglary of the truck.

Byrd, 18, is charged with two counts of grand theft of law enforcement, two counts of dealing in stolen property and one count of tampering with evidence.

Eighteen-year veteran Brian Keane left the unmarked truck unlocked overnight at his North Port home, and the firearms were taken sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to sheriff's office spokesperson Kaitlyn Perez.

It was not immediately clear if another weapon was still accounted for. 10News has reached out to deputies for clarification.

The investigation is ongoing.
