2 teens die after crashing stolen car into tree, St. Petersburg police say

Crews have closed 38th Avenue North to traffic in both directions while police investigate.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Two teens died Monday morning after crashing the stolen car they were in, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

At about 3:23 a.m., a 2016 Madza Miata, which had been reported stolen hours earlier, swerved off the road and hit a tree on 38th Avenue North near 49th Street South, police said. They said the driver and passenger were burned beyond recognition.

Police later identified the occupants as Damari Milton, 18, and Dequanty Lightsey, 16.

The investigation is ongoing.
