ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A 62-mph wind gust was recorded early Monday at the coast as strong to severe thunderstorms came ashore.
As they pressed inland, they ripped a roof at least one mobile home and damaged others around U.S. 41 and 73rd Street East north of Palmetto. The National Weather Service says straight-line winds in excess of 60 mph likely caused the damage.
Earlier storms were strong enough to down part of an oak tree in Tampa, blocking west Spruce Street in both directions between north Lincoln and Glen avenues. Drivers were asked to avoid the area as crews weren't immediately available to remove the tree.

A line of thunderstorms prompted a warning for some time during the 4 a.m. hour. According to the weather service, the 62-mph gust was recorded from a home weather station around 4:11 a.m. in Dunedin.
