HILLSBOROUGH, Fla. -- It was a rough weekend for law enforcement around the country, but Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies found a few ways to give back to those in need.

On Sunday, Sergeant Leonette Garfield was on patrol when she saw a despondent man. The sheriff's office tweeted that she paid the $100 he short on rent and Deputy Quezada bought him and his two brothers groceries for a week.

The sheriff's office said the one man takes care of both brothers because one has autism and the other can't work.

Then early Monday, the sheriff's office posted a photo to Instagram and Facebook of a smiling deputy and a young woman holding boxes of diapers and wipes.

The deputy said after the woman's car had been broken into, she had no money left to care for her baby. Deputy James Baker responded to the call and ended up spending his own money to buy her diapers and wet wipes.

The sheriff's office said in the post, "You make us so very proud, James, and clearly those smiles tell the rest of the story."
