PLANT CITY, Fla. – Raining Cats and Dogs Shelter and Sanctuary was burglarized and vandalized over the weekend, according to several Facebook posts from the shelter.

The burglary happened after 9 p.m. Saturday. The shelter claims whoever committed the burglary took the electric meter, which cut power to the shelter and disabled security systems.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office said owner Laura Santo told them it appeared the suspects had tampered with the motion security light on the northwest roof corner, a TECO power box and had removed two window air conditioning units from the east side of the building.

Deputies also said the suspect(s) had entered an unlocked utility shed on the property and removed another portable A/C unit. The faceplate of the TECO power box had been removed and the power meter had been taken, deputies said.

Once inside, the alleged burglars took lawn equipment and tools.

The shelter said the following items were taken:

• Troy-Bilt Riding Lawnmower

• Greenworks Electric Mower and batteries

• Greenworks Weed Wacker

• Various tools including a compound miter saw, robo-zip, skil-saws, hand tools

• Pillows - Laura Ashley and Ralph Lauren brand (these were donated for the kitties) - they left the inexpensive brand pillows

• 10x10x6 Chain Link Dog Kennel

• LG Portable Air Conditioner
