Pembroke Pines toddler dies after being left in hot car for hours

Police said the 17-month-old child had been left behind in a parked car near North University Drive for hours on Friday.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. -- A 17-month-old boy died Friday after being left in a hot car in a parking lot for hours, police said.

Pembroke Pines police responded to a medical assistance call around 5 p.m. Friday in the 2200 block of North University Drive. Police said the toddler had been left in the car for more than eight hours. Despite CPR and fire rescue transport, the child died.

The identities of the boy or his parents have not been released. Police said the investigation continues. Check back for updates.
