A former Plant High and University of Miami quarterback is facing battery charges after being accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend and stomping on her throat in Key West.

A former Plant High and University of Miami quarterback is facing battery charges after being accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend and stomping on her throat in Key West.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Robert Marve, 29, turned himself in Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest in Monroe County.

According to jail records, Marve is charged with felony battery/domestic battery by strangulation. He was released after posting $50,000 bail.

The Times reports Marve's ex-girlfriend said he attacked her in their Key West hotel room last week, hitting her face, chest, arms and legs, and stomping on her throat.

Marve played two seasons at UMiami, then transferred to Purdue. He played three seasons for the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers before retiring in 2015.

He is employed as an athletic director at Tampa Sports Academy, according to jail records.
