CLEARWATER, Fla.—A 91-year-old man is stable at the hospital after Clearwater Fire and Rescue crews pulled him from a sinking car Friday.

The car had crashed into a pond around noon near 2022 Camelot Drive in Clearwater, which is by the Top of the World retirement community.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the driver lost control of the vehicle while making a turn into a parking spot and hit another vehicle. The car kept going through the parking spot and drove into the pond, FHP reported.

Crews got into the water and rescued him from the vehicle he was trapped in, according to Clearwater officials.

Florida Highway Patrol officers are investigating how the crash happened.
