Tampa Bay Rays helping real estate sales in Ybor

Before the Ray's announced they may be moving to Ybor, Bungalow style homes would be impossible to sell and real estate in that area was relatively cheap.

TAMPA -- If you walk around Ybor, you’ll find many old, narrow houses that were once home to cigar workers.

Before the Ray’s announced they may be moving to Ybor, Bungalow style homes would be impossible to sell and real estate in that area was relatively cheap.

But with more talk about the Tampa Bay Rays making Ybor home, including developers releasing new renderings of what the stadium will look like, properties have been selling fast.

Gabe Galdos has been a real estate agent in Tampa for 11 years. He recently sold an old bungalow home on 15th street.

“It was on the market for over a month, and went under contract in a week after Ray’s announcement,” says Galdos. “Values have gone up and it’s now more expensive to get property.”

It’s not just people wanting to be new homeowners in Ybor., but Galdos has also seen an uptick in investors looking to capitalize in that market.

“They’re buying houses that need repairs and they know there will be a demand in people wanting to live there,” he says. “They’re also looking to develop areas with new restaurants.”
