TAMPA, Fla. – A private attorney will represent the man charged with intentionally running over a Tampa father and injuring two children, a judge ruled Friday morning.
Mikese Morse appeared in court shortly after 10:30 a.m. and expressed that he would like James Smith to serve as his lawyer rather than a representative from the state public defender's office.
Tampa police say witnesses saw Mikese Morse make a U-turn, then accelerate into Pedro Aguerreberry on June 24 on a bike path on New Tampa Boulevard at Wood Sage Drive.
Aguerreberry died of his injuries. His 3-year-old son suffered serious injuries, and his 8-year-old son had minor injuries in the crash.
Morse is charged with premeditated first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder -- among other charges for leaving the scene.
