SARASOTA, Fla. -- Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords attended a campaign event for Democrat David Shapiro, who is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
The duo went to Five Points Park in Sarasota Thursday to speak about student safety issues.
“We live in frightening times,” Giffords told a crowd of supporters.
Shapiro will face off against fellow Democratic candidate Jan Schneider in the August 28 primary.
The winner of the Democratic primary will then run against Republican incumbent Vern Buchanan in the Nov. 6 general election.
