Woman with iPhone films Whale Shark swimming off coast of St. Petersburg

A Pinellas Park woman filmed a Whale Shark swimming off Florida's coast.

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Underwater video of a Whale Shark swimming in the Gulf of Mexico is captivating viewers on Facebook.

Patti Gail, of Pinellas Park, captured the footage while fishing for Grouper on June 9 roughly 20 miles off the coast of St. Petersburg.

Her iPhone camera shows the filter-feeder majestically coasting just below the water's surface. It was so beautiful she decided to share the images with a Tampa Bay Facebook group that is dedicated to fishing.

Whale Sharks are the largest known species of fish and can grow nearly as long as the average school bus.

Around the same time, another Florida fisher spotted multiple Whale Sharks near Anna Maria Island.
