TAMPA, Fla. -- It's no longer necessary to boil water following last week's water main break on Rome Avenue.

Test results show the water is sanitary and safe for drinking and preparing food without boiling, according to the Tampa Water Department in a news release.

North Rome Avenue from West Hillsborough Avenue to West Burke Street remains closed after a 24-inch water main broke last Thursday afternoon, spewing a huge geyser from the roadway.

Cleanup and roadway restoration is expected to be complete by Tuesday, with a normal traffic pattern.
