It’s our favorite part of the week!

Friday leads us into the weekend, but it’s also when we showcase our 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida. This week we spent time on the campus of St. Petersburg High School in Pinellas County.

Go Green Devils! Founded in 1898, this school is rich in history. In fact, one of our favorite places on campus is the archive room filled with memorabilia from throughout the years. Most of the items donated by alumni.

You’ll find newspapers and yearbooks nearly 100 years old. Treasures representing the school’s identity and tradition encased in glass and on display. This isn’t the original building, but it’s old enough that it earned its spot on the National Register of Historic Places. When this building was built, it was the first $1 million school in the nation.

It’s also home to the first International Baccalaureate program in the state. It’s not all about the past though.

The school offers a fairly new program where students learn the businesses of hospitality and tourism. With the thousands of visitors in Florida each year, these are industries making up a large part of the state’s employment opportunities. It's easy to see why St. Petersburg High School is our 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida with a busy campus offering a variety of courses its students.
