PARKLAND, Fla. - TIME named five Parkland students to its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

The publication recognized Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students Cameron Kasky, Jaclyn Corin, David Hogg, Emma Gonzalez and Alex Wind in this year's TIME 100.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama wrote the entry.

"By bearing witness to carnage, by asking tough questions and demanding real answers, the Parkland students are shaking us out of our complacency," Obama wrote.

On Wednesday, Hogg tweeted he will write a book with his sister about the Feb. 14 mass shooting and the gun-control movement afterward.

The book is set for release on June 5.

TIME's full list and related tributes appear in the April 30 issue of the publication, which is available on newsstands Friday and at time.com/100.

In its 15th year, the list recognizes the activism, innovation and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals.
