Gov. Rick Scott: FDLE will investigate response into Parkland school shooting

The Broward County Sheriff's Office also is being criticized as a deputy assigned at the school did not go into the building to confront the shooter.

Gov. Rick Scott outlined his plan to keep state students safe on Feb. 23, 2013. His announcement to raise the age of buying a gun to 21 years or older came after the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will open an investigation into the response to the Parkland high school shooting that left 17 students and staff dead.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Sunday, Feb. 25, asked FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen to have his agency look into how law enforcement acted in the moments during the Valentine's Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

In a news release, FDLE says it will conduct the investigation.

Nikolas Cruz, 19, is accused of shooting and killing 17 people at the school. Numerous reports have surfaced since then, detailing how FBI agents failed to investigate a tip about Cruz and his behavior.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office is being criticized as some deputies reportedly did not go into the building to confront the shooter.
