Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run crash on Courtney Campbell Causeway

The crash involving a motorcycle and at least two other cars happened early Saturday morning.

TAMPA, Fla. - The westbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway have reopened Saturday morning after a deadly hit-and-run crash.

The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. Saturday on the Courtney Campbell Causeway and the Ben T. Davis traffic light, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Police said a motorcyclist was going at a high rate of speed and crashed into the rear of a pickup that was doing a U-turn at the light.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike, then was struck by two other vehicles. He died at the scene.

His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

One of the vehicles that struck the motorcyclist stayed at the scene, but the other left. Police are working to identify that vehicle.
