Man shot in Tarpon Springs, lockout status lifted at 3 schools

Tarpon Springs police did not have a description of the suspect. Police also do not know who fired the gun.

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - Three schools in Tarpon Springs were on precautionary lockout status after a man was shot on Friday morning.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department said the man was shot around 8:45 a.m. Friday near the Sunset Shores Association Residential Units.

The following three schools have since had their lockout status lifted, according to Tarpon Springs police:

  • Tarpon Springs High School
  • Tarpon Springs Middle School
  • Sunset Hills Elementary School

Tarpon Springs police did not have a description of the suspect. Police also do not know who fired the gun.

There is no evidence linking Friday morning's shooting to any school activities, Tarpon Springs police said.

The man shot works as an employed by a landscape contractor and was working on grounds maintenance duties, the police said. First responders took him to the Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson.

The investigation is ongoing.
